A former US Army sergeant, Alonzo Lunsford, who survived the Fort Hood mass shooting, has expressed his support for the execution of the gunman, Nidal Hasan, by firing squad. However, he raised concerns about the potential livestreaming of the execution, stating it should not be viewed as entertainment.

Background on the Shooting

In 2009, Nidal Hasan, a US Army psychiatrist, fatally shot 13 unarmed soldiers at Fort Hood. Lunsford, who was shot seven times during the attack, believes that a firing squad execution is appropriate for Hasan, arguing that other methods, such as lethal injection, would be "doing him a favour."

Concerns About Livestreaming

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Lunsford stated:

“

"To show the whole thing without it being censored for the general public, for me personally, I don't agree with that, but it's not about my personal belief."

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the execution would be livestreamed, emphasizing the importance of showing the consequences of such crimes. If it proceeds, it would mark the first public execution in the US in nearly a century.
