Three Saudi nationals have been killed in two recent attacks on the international airport in Riyadh, according to the country's civil aviation authority. This escalation in fighting comes as Yemen's Houthi group claimed responsibility for targeting the facility.
Details of the Attacks
The General Authority of Civil Aviation reported that the attacks resulted in injuries to several Saudi citizens and residents of various nationalities. The first attack occurred on Thursday, targeting the airport, while the second struck an aircraft belonging to state carrier Saudia. One of the airline's pilots was among those killed.
Air traffic has since returned to normal, the civil aviation authority confirmed. Reports indicate that the Houthis launched the airport attacks using two missiles. They also claimed to have targeted an airport in Najran city near the Saudi border and the Khamis Mushait air base further north.
Context of the Conflict
These latest casualties follow previous Houthi attacks on October 6 and 7, which resulted in three deaths across two Saudi airports. Specifically, two individuals were killed and 28 were wounded in an attack at Abha International Airport, while another fatality occurred at King Khalid Airport.
