A Queensland court heard on Thursday that a woman allegedly choked and assaulted by former Bachelor star Sam Wood told police she "thought she was going to die." The court proceedings revealed that police had previously attended Wood's home in Victoria regarding a similar allegation about three years ago, but the woman did not file a complaint at that time due to "fear of retribution."

Court Proceedings

The 46-year-old wellness influencer from Melbourne was denied bail and will remain in custody indefinitely while awaiting trial. Police argued that Wood's behavior was "escalating" and that he posed an unacceptable risk to the community. Wood appeared via video link from the Maroochydore police watch house, where he had been held for approximately four days following his arrest at Noosa on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. He faces two domestic violence charges: assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting.

Evidence Presented

During the hearing, police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris outlined the prosecution's case, which includes:

  • A triple zero call made by a family member
  • Photographs of the victim’s injuries
  • A video-recorded statement by the complainant
