The public will have the opportunity to watch the execution of Nidal Hasan, a former US Army major, by firing squad. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced this decision, stating that the execution would be livestreamed, marking a significant event in military history.

Background on the Case

Nidal Hasan was responsible for the tragic shooting at Fort Hood in 2009, where he fatally shot 13 unarmed US soldiers. This incident remains the deadliest non-combat attack on an American military base. The Pentagon confirmed earlier this week that Hasan's execution would be the first military execution in over 60 years.

Hegseth emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding the consequences of such actions, stating:

“

"We'll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it's public. Because people need to understand that there's serious consequences for these types of things."

Execution Details

The execution is scheduled to take place at Fort Hood, Texas, on December 3. This will be the first military execution by firing squad since the end of World War Two. A Pentagon spokesperson, Sean Parnell, noted that the recommendation for the execution was made by the defence secretary and approved by President Donald Trump.
