Married at First Sight Australia is embroiled in controversy as police have initiated an investigation into the popular reality TV show. The New South Wales Police informed BBC News that inquiries are underway "following a report of inappropriate content being shared."

Investigation Details

Channel Nine, the network airing Married at First Sight Australia, confirmed its awareness of the police investigation involving the show's production company, Endemol Shine Australia. This development follows a previous BBC News investigation that revealed cast members were not informed about their partners' prior drug and violence convictions. These revelations prompted a warning from Australia's media watchdog, labeling the situation as "serious and disturbing."

Related Issues in the UK Version

The British iteration of the show, known as MAFS UK, faced its own crisis in May when BBC Panorama reported rape allegations from two female cast members, which the accused men have denied. The UK version is produced by a different company than its Australian counterpart. The Panorama investigation raised significant concerns regarding the welfare procedures in place for participants, suggesting they may have been left vulnerable.

Allegations and Complaints

According to TV Blackbox, a male cast member from the current season of MAFS Australia lodged a formal complaint with the police after producers allegedly disclosed private information about him to his on-screen partner.

A spokesperson for the New South Wales Police Force stated:

“

"On Monday 24 August 2026, officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command commenced an investigation following a report of inappropriate content being shared. Following inquiries, the matter will be referred to WA [Western Australia] Police Force."
