Interest in Elizabeth Holmes and the Theranos fraud scandal has surged following the buzz surrounding You Can See Everything, a record-breaking documentary about the disgraced former CEO. Viewership for The Dropout, the 2022 Hulu series starring Amanda Seyfried as Holmes, increased by 186% in September compared to the previous month, according to Variety. This spike followed the announcement on September 6 of the film's first teaser.

Viewership Surge

Viewership for The Dropout nearly doubled again during the week of October 12, rising 92% over the previous week in the days leading up to the film's premiere on October 16. Additionally, Bad Blood, the 2018 book by journalist John Carreyrou that details the inner workings of Holmes’s fraudulent empire, has returned to the New York Times bestseller list.

Background on Elizabeth Holmes

At one point, Holmes was the youngest female self-made billionaire in the US, boasting a net worth of $4.5 billion by the age of 30. She left Theranos in 2018 after Carreyrou’s reporting revealed that she and others were aware that the company’s devices could not accurately test blood samples, leading to the company's collapse shortly thereafter.
