Kim Aris has spoken to his mother, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, for the first time in over five years, marking a significant moment amid the loosening of her detention restrictions. In a heartfelt post on Facebook, Aris expressed,

“

"Today, I was finally able to speak with my mother, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, after more than five years. Hearing her voice again means more than words can express."

Aung San Suu Kyi, the former democratic leader of Myanmar, is currently under house arrest in Naypyidaw, where she has been confined since the military coup in February 2021 that ousted her government. Images shared by Aris show him standing outside the Myanmar embassy in London, UK.

Aris continued,

“

"I am deeply grateful to everyone who has stood by my mother and me. I believe your voices helped make this moment possible. But my mother is 81 and remains unjustly detained. One conversation is not regular family access."
