At least six homes were destroyed and two firefighters were injured after a fast-moving wildfire swept through parts of southern California on Friday. The Norte fire, which began in the coastal city of San Clemente, has led to the evacuation of approximately 6,000 homes, impacting around 16,000 residents in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.

Incident Overview

Two firefighters were hospitalized due to heat-related injuries, as confirmed by officials. An official from the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) stated,

“

"As reported yesterday, we can confirm that six homes have been destroyed or damaged, there have been two firefighter injuries, and the cause is still under investigation."

TJ McGovern, the OCFA chief, reported in a press conference that there have been no injuries or fatalities among residents so far. He attributed the fire's rapid spread to natural factors, including weather conditions and wind.

“

"Due to weather and topography, this fire moved fast. This was a wind-driven event," McGovern noted.
