Five senior military officials have been detained in Kazakhstan following the tragic death of 14 service members during military exercises. The incident occurred on Thursday when a total of 17 service members were swept into the Caspian Sea while disembarking from a boat. Officials reported that the incident was caused by a "sharp deterioration in meteorological conditions and increasing winds".

Among those who died, three service members were rescued. The detained officials include:
- The chief of staff and first deputy commander of Kazakhstan's Naval Forces
- Two military unit commanders
- The commanders of a marine company and a boat
