The Environment Agency has issued a warning to residents of six million properties in England to prepare for a potentially wet and stormy winter. More than two million people are reportedly unaware that their homes are at risk of flooding, as the UK braces for adverse weather conditions in the coming months.
Increased Flood Risk
Experts indicate that the next three months are likely to be wetter and windier than usual, influenced by large-scale weather patterns and the effects of a supercharged El Niño. The Environment Agency highlighted that a significant portion of homeowners in the most vulnerable areas are not aware of the flooding threat they face.
Caroline Douglass, director for flood and coastal risk management at the Environment Agency, stated:
“"We know with the six million properties at risk [in England] … and we know that one-third of people who are at risk don’t think they are at risk."
