A doctor accused of multiple offences related to the 1994 Rwanda genocide is scheduled to face trial in the autumn of 2027. Dr. Vincent Brown, formerly known as Dr. Vincent Bajinya, aged 65, is charged with "killing, directing or encouraging" the deaths of members of the Tutsi ethnic group in Rwanda. He is the first individual in the UK to be charged in connection with the genocide.

Charges and Trial Details

Dr. Brown, who resides in Islington, north London, faces one count of conduct ancillary to genocide and six counts of conduct ancillary to murder as a crime against humanity. A judge has set a provisional trial date to commence in October 2027. He has denied any wrongdoing and has not yet entered a plea.

During a pre-trial hearing at the Old Bailey, Dr. Brown appeared via video link from Belmarsh prison. Mrs. Justice Cheema-Grubb established a provisional trial duration of eight to twelve weeks starting from October 4, 2027. A plea and case management hearing is scheduled for January 15. Dr. Brown has indicated that he will plead not guilty to the charges.
