US President Donald Trump has announced a significant agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin that will allow Moscow to "immediately release" diesel into the global market. This deal includes the immediate release of 300,000 tonnes of diesel, followed by 500,000 tonnes in November and an additional one million tonnes thereafter.

“

"Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!" Trump stated on Truth Social.

Context

The announcement comes as diesel prices in the US have doubled since the onset of the war with Iran in February, creating pressure on Republicans ahead of the midterm elections due to the rising cost of living. Currently, the average diesel price in the US stands at $6.28 per gallon, a decrease from the record high of $6.53 recorded at the end of September, according to the AAA.
