Oil prices have surged amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and concerns over production disruptions due to a hurricane threat off the US coast. Brent crude, the international benchmark, increased by 3.8% to $104 a barrel on Thursday, prompting a sell-off in global bond and stock markets.

The White House has reportedly asked the Pentagon to prepare options for potential strikes against Iran ahead of the upcoming US midterm elections. According to a report in The Atlantic, unnamed officials from Donald Trump’s administration indicated that discussions are ongoing regarding the scale and targets of these strikes. This development has diminished hopes that Trump will avoid escalating the conflict with Iran before the elections next month.
