Rodney Hinton was found guilty of murder and other charges on Friday for running over Deputy Larry Henderson after viewing body-cam footage of police shooting his son, Ryan Hinton.
Background
The incident occurred just hours after Hinton watched the footage of his son being killed by Cincinnati police. Hinton, 40, faces a sentence ranging from 15 years to life in prison, with sentencing tentatively scheduled for November 16. During his 10-day trial, Hinton's defense argued that he was in such distress over his son's death that he could not distinguish between right and wrong at the time of the incident. However, jurors rejected this defense after deliberations began on Wednesday.
The Verdict
Hinton was found guilty of:
- Murder
- Reckless homicide
- Felonious assault
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson stated, "The senseless murder of Deputy Larry Henderson Jr. shattered a family and left a community mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant who had spent 33 years on the job." He expressed gratitude to the jury for their verdict, emphasizing that Henderson's death serves as a painful reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officers.
