Our wildlife series Young Country Diary is inviting articles written by children about their autumn encounters with nature.
Submission Details
Once again, the Young Country Diary series is open for submissions! Every three months, we ask you to send us an article written by a child aged 8-14. The article should focus on a recent encounter with nature—whether it’s a hedge full of berries, a beetle on the move, or a nervous deer. We welcome contributions from all children, regardless of their experience with nature.
Important Dates
- Deadline for autumn submissions: Noon on Monday, 2 November.
- Publication: Four entries will be selected for publication in the newspaper and online—two each in October and November. Early submissions before the 15th may have a chance to be published in October.
- The form will reopen on 1 January for winter submissions after a break in December.
How to Submit
To submit an article, parents or guardians must provide permission. Here’s what the child needs to do:
- Go out to a natural setting—this could be their local woods, beach, garden, farm, or park.
- Write an article of 200-250 words detailing their observations and experiences.
- Send the article using the provided form, which parents should fill out rather than the child.
