Harvey Nichols’ Birmingham store is set to close in January, resulting in the loss of at least 60 jobs. This decision comes as part of a broader restructuring under Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group, which recently acquired the department store chain.

Background

The Birmingham store closure follows the acquisition of Harvey Nichols by Frasers Group for £43 million after the chain entered administration in mid-August. The deal saved approximately 1,000 of the group’s 1,200 jobs and preserved six UK stores. Additionally, the Oxo Tower restaurant associated with Harvey Nichols was sold to a separate buyer, saving 130 jobs.

Store Conversions

As part of the restructuring, the Leeds and Bristol outlets will be converted to the Flannels brand. The Birmingham store, which has been operational for 25 years, was announced for closure earlier this week, as first reported by the fashion trade journal Drapers. The future of the Manchester, Edinburgh, and London Harvey Nichols stores remains uncertain.
