On Thursday, Anthropic announced an update to its usage policy, introducing new prohibitions aimed at preventing election interference, the development of weapons software, and surveillance activities. A significant aspect of this update is the explicit ban on prolonged verbal abuse of the model, which is now clearly forbidden.
Key Changes in the Policy
Since an update in August, Claude has been trained to terminate conversations that involve "persistently harmful or abusive user interactions." The new policy explicitly prohibits users from engaging in such conversations.
“"The policy update is meant to apply only in extreme cases, where users repeatedly act cruelly toward our models, with no discernible purpose," the company stated. "It does not apply to common versions of user frustration, pushback, dark creative themes, or model testing and research."
