An explosion in the central Plaka district of Athens has resulted in at least two fatalities and four individuals reported missing. The blast occurred in a building that housed a holiday rental property, located near the historic Acropolis.

Local media have reported that the explosion destroyed the three-storey building, leading to significant damage to neighboring structures and debris scattered across the street. Emergency service workers are currently searching through the rubble, with a suspected gas leak being the cause of the explosion.
Casualties
Among the deceased are an American man and woman, while two additional US tourists are missing. A Greek national and a UK national who resided in the building are also unaccounted for. The tourists were confirmed missing after failing to arrive for their flight at Athens airport, according to local police.
