A third person has been arrested in the death of Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old woman, in Jackson, Mississippi. Investigators revealed that the scene where her body was found hanging had been staged. Eric Clark, 45, surrendered to authorities on Friday and has been charged with murder, according to the Jackson Police Department (JPD). Clark is scheduled to make a court appearance on Monday.
Investigation Details
Police disclosed on Friday that an autopsy investigation concluded that "the scene and the hanging were staged." However, authorities have not released further information regarding the circumstances of Fortune’s killing or the reasoning behind their belief that the scene was faked.
Clark’s arrest follows the earlier charges against two other men, Earnest Lloyd Jr. and Jarques Ratliff, who were also charged with murder in connection with Fortune’s death. The case has garnered national attention due to the severity of the crime and Mississippi’s historical context of racist violence and lynchings. Notably, Clark, Lloyd Jr., Ratliff, and Fortune are all Black.
