Investigation Details
Christy Spivey, Fortune's mother, expressed her shock and confusion following the police's announcement. "I have more questions now than what I did before," she told the BBC. The Jackson Police Department stated that the medical examiner determined Fortune's death was a homicide and that the scene was staged. However, officials have not disclosed the exact cause of death or any potential motive behind the staging.
Arrests Made
Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, all of whom are black. Spivey noted that the police had not clarified how these suspects were connected to her daughter or why her death was staged. "Still no cause of death, no date of death - nothing," she lamented. "What actually killed her?"
