Tenth woman's body found in South Africa suburb as police probe killings

Police in South Africa have discovered a woman's body in a Johannesburg suburb, marking the tenth such case in recent months. The body was found on Saturday morning and was identified by a friend who had been with her at a bar the previous evening.

Local police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni stated that authorities could not rule out the possibility of a serial killer being active, citing similarities among the ten deaths in Ekurhuleni and another in Soweto. The recent fatalities have ignited a national outcry regarding the alarming levels of violence against women in the country, which has one of the highest rates of gender-based violence globally.

The latest body was discovered at a cemetery in the Tembisa neighborhood, located northeast of central Johannesburg. Following the discovery, police issued a statement confirming that crime scene investigators were on-site collecting evidence. The victim has not yet been publicly identified.
