Sass Jordan, the celebrated Canadian rock singer-songwriter known for her impactful presence in the 1990s music scene, has passed away at the age of 65. She died on October 2, surrounded by her family, although no cause of death has been disclosed. A heartfelt statement on social media described her as "an inimitable force of nature" and an "irreplaceable being of light and joy."
Early Life and Career
Born in Birmingham, England in 1960, Jordan moved to Montreal as a child when her father, an academic, took a position at Concordia University. She began her musical journey in her teens and by her twenties, she was collaborating with various Montreal artists. One of her early successes was writing a song for singer Michael Breen, which became a Canadian Top 40 hit.
In 1988, she signed with Atlantic Records, releasing her debut album Tell Somebody. The album featured two singles, the title track and Double Trouble, both of which charted just outside the Canadian Top 10. In 1989, she won a Juno Award for most promising female vocalist.
