Three men have been sentenced to a total of 33 years in detention for the rape of a 17-year-old girl before they fled the UK to France in the back of a lorry. The men, Mehrab Safi (21), Salman Habibkheil (19), Awal Ahmadzai (19), and a 17-year-old boy, were convicted after they persuaded the girl to travel to Bristol alone and subsequently got her drunk.
Convictions and Sentences
- Safi was found guilty of two counts of rape.
- Habibkheil was convicted of one count of rape and both were found guilty of arranging or facilitating the travel of a female with a view to exploitation.
- Ahmadzai was found guilty of one count of rape and one of sexual assault.
- The 17-year-old boy was convicted of one count of rape.
Safi received a 15-year sentence, while Habibkheil and Ahmadzai were each sentenced to nine years in a youth detention centre. The 17-year-old was sentenced to two years and seven months in youth detention.
Incident Details
The victim met Safi during a trip to Bristol in November 2025 for Christmas shopping with a friend. After their initial meeting, Safi began messaging her, professing his love and requesting indecent images. Four days later, he, along with Habibkheil, arranged for her to be picked up by a taxi and taken to his house, where she was raped over several hours.
