For much of his life, Zain Javaid, 19, aspired to be a quant, using math and data to guide investment decisions. However, after a period of working in that field, he found himself bored. The release of ChatGPT in 2022 reignited his excitement, leading him to explore personal AI. This journey culminated in the founding of Ghost, which announced its emergence from stealth mode on Monday, along with an $11 million seed funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz.

Funding and Team

Other investors in this round include Abstract, Audacious Ventures, SV Angel, and Nova. Javaid's founding team comprises Nicholas Chua (19), Yifei Chen (24), and Gautam Sharda (23).

Introducing Core

Ghost's inaugural product, Core, is a personal computer specifically designed for AI agents that can perform tasks on behalf of users. Javaid explained that Core aims to centralize a person's data—from desktop files to smart home devices—into a single device that continuously runs AI agents, acting as an assistant and understanding the user's life.

“

"You can run models on existing hardware, but it’s a terrible experience on many levels," said Javaid, who also serves as Core's CEO.

Core is equipped with an Nvidia RTX Pro 4000 SFF Blackwell GPU, a chip commonly used for running AI models. Javaid noted that the GPU is included in the device's price, eliminating the need for customers to purchase it separately. The device also features its own software layer, browser, and filing system, allowing it to process information and tasks continuously without constant prompting. The price for Core is set at $3,499, with pre-orders opening on Monday and shipping scheduled for the last week of October.
