Rapper Tinie Tempah has announced that he will finally visit Scunthorpe, 16 years after declaring in his hit song Pass Out that he had never been to the town. This decision comes after a campaign led by local resident Ben Johns, who encouraged fans to pre-save Tempah's new album, The Night’s Not Dead.
Fan Campaign
Johns initiated the campaign by carrying a cardboard cutout of Tempah around Scunthorpe, promoting the album and engaging the community. He reached out to Tempah on Instagram, asking, "what it would take" for him to visit. The artist responded, saying, "I’ll do you a deal brother," agreeing to visit if the album received 5,000 pre-saves.
On his TikTok account, Johns expressed excitement about the upcoming visit, stating it would be "an iconic moment in British music history, bringing Tinie Tempah to Scunthorpe." The 2010 single, which features the lyrics, "I been Southampton but I’ve never been to Scunthorpe," spent 65 weeks on the charts, including two weeks at number one.
