An ABC journalist and union office-holder, Michael Slezak, may face disciplinary action for writing an opinion piece for the Australian Financial Review, according to the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA). The article, published last week, discusses a proposal by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) to limit journalists' access to personal information about company directors.
Background
Slezak, who is also the head of the ABC house committee, wrote the piece in his capacity as the federal president of the MEAA. The article highlights the union's campaign against the proposed restrictions on journalists' access to vital information.
Last week, Slezak met with the new ABC director of news, Simon Robinson, and the head of digital and national news, Lee Glendinning, to discuss his compliance with the ABC’s external work policy. Robinson was appointed by ABC managing director Hugh Marks, following the resignation of the previous news chief, Justin Stevens, in May.
