A death row inmate was executed by lethal injection on Wednesday evening in Texas, marking the first execution in the US since the failed attempt to put Christa Pike to death last week.

Execution Details

Jamaal Howard, 46, was executed despite his lawyers' requests for a judge to pause the execution due to concerns stemming from Pike's botched injections. The execution took place at the state prison in Huntsville, where Howard received a fatal dose of pentobarbital and was pronounced dead at 20:03 local time.

Howard was convicted and sentenced to death for the 2000 murder of Vickie Swartout, a convenience store clerk, during a robbery. His lawyers argued that using the same drug as in Pike's execution posed similar risks, and they claimed that Texas' supply of pentobarbital had become degraded.
