A university student is on trial for allegedly murdering his housemate by stabbing him 30 times. Zack Coughlan, 23, is accused of ambushing Jamie Collins, 21, as he returned home from the University of the West of England in Bristol.
Incident Details
The attack occurred shortly before 6 PM on April 8. Coughlan, dressed in black and wearing a mask and gloves, waited in the garden of their shared home near the university. Collins was returning on his bike when he was attacked.
After the stabbing, Coughlan allegedly cycled away, discarded the bike at a nearby retail park, changed his clothes, and disposed of his bloodstained garments in a pond. He returned home around 9 PM, where he prepared a pizza and engaged in online gaming with friends.
Emergency Call
Adam Vaitilingam KC, prosecuting, stated that hours later, Coughlan called the police, claiming he had just discovered Collins's body in the garden.
