Storm Adam brought torrential rain to eastern Spain earlier this week, causing severe flooding in several regions. In Pego, Alicante, 632mm of rain fell in just 36 hours, with 430mm of that total occurring within a mere six hours. The town of Olivia in Valencia recorded 600mm of rain in 24 hours.

As a result of the extreme weather, 145 municipalities, affecting approximately 850,000 people, were placed in a temporary lockdown on Monday. Tragically, at least five people have died, while 500 individuals have been rescued and 2,100 evacuated from their homes.

Impact on the Balearic Islands

The storm also impacted the Balearic Islands, where more than 130 incidents were reported in Ibiza. This included standing water at the airport, leading to some flights being diverted or suspended. Although the worst of Storm Adam has passed and conditions are improving across Valencia and Alicante, local disruptions are expected to continue.
