Models walked the runway at the Louvre with flying cars hovering above as designer Nicolas Ghesquière envisioned city life in a warming world. Dressed in silk slip dresses, breezy vented tunics, and gossamer layers of chiffon, the models were perfectly attired for an unseasonably warm October evening in Paris, where temperatures reached 24°C at sunset.

A Futuristic Vision

This summer’s record temperatures were on Ghesquière’s mind. He stated, > "The world is getting warmer, this definitely had a strong influence." The show was staged in an inner courtyard of the Louvre, illuminated by the tail lights of a fleet of 34 flying cars in Vuitton’s signature Damier check, raised on stilts above the catwalk. The contrast between the futuristic set and the historic buildings elegantly echoed the Louvre’s centerpiece, IM Pei’s glass pyramid, amid the French classical architecture.

Life in the Future

The future is always on Ghesquière’s mind. His science fiction bent was evident in the models’ beaded silver fringes, resembling a mix between space-age hair extensions and sun visors. This season, he focused on life in the cities of the future, portraying his models as pedestrians among flying cars. He reflected, > "I was thinking about a woman walking through traffic, and how in the urban environment we sometimes feel vulnerable and sometimes feel strong."
