Lidl's sales in Great Britain surged by 10% to over £13 billion this year, driven by consumers seeking affordable fresh meat, fruits, and vegetables, as well as its popular Deluxe range.
Financial Growth
Pre-tax profit for Lidl's British operations increased by 30% to £245.5 million for the year ending in February, up from £156.8 million the previous year. The rise in sales comes amid a backdrop of escalating food inflation, with in-store prices rising to an annual rate of 1.5% in August, compared to 0.9% in July. Inflation for fresh produce remained particularly high at 3%.
Price Cuts and Promotions
Lidl has invested £315 million in price cuts and promotions, including its “pick of the week” product. The supermarket noted a 12% increase in sales of its Deluxe upmarket food range, as more households opt to dine in rather than eat out. Ryan McDonnell, Lidl GB's chief executive, stated:
