A court has heard that Jesse Baird’s housemate did not realize she was photographing bags containing the bodies of Baird and his partner, Luke Davies, on the night of their alleged murders.
Incident Overview
Beau Lamarre-Condon, 31, is accused of fatally shooting Baird and Davies with his police service weapon at Baird’s home in Paddington on February 19, 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one charge of aggravated break and enter.
Housemate's Testimony
The housemate, referred to in court as Belinda Smith, testified that she returned home from work on the evening after the shootings. She went to the courtyard to check on her laundry after a day of heavy rain. There, she observed “two surfboard bags with a blue tarp over the top of them and red liquid.”
Smith took a photo of the liquid and sent it to another housemate, known as Sarah King. The photo was presented to the jury during the trial.
When asked about the liquid, Smith stated she believed it was “rusted water from the outdoor furniture.” Under questioning from crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield SC, she confirmed that Baird had never discussed surfing with her and that she had not seen a surfboard in their home.
