Investigators in the US state of Georgia are searching for a suspect involved in a mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 35 others.

Incident Overview

The shooting took place around 01:30 local time (05:30 GMT) during a block party in the small community of Vienna, where approximately 1,000 people had gathered for a Dooly High School homecoming celebration. Although the event was not school-sponsored, it attracted a large crowd. According to officials, more than 50 shots were fired during the incident.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while another 25 individuals were transported to various nearby hospitals, with some reported to be in critical condition. The ages of the victims ranged from 14 to 51.

Response from Authorities

In anticipation of a large gathering, authorities from the Dooly County Sheriff's Office were positioned at both ends of the crowd. As gunfire erupted, Sheriff Craig Peavy reported that some attendees initially mistook the sound for fireworks before realizing that shots had been fired.
