Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, is facing accusations of protecting a mayoral candidate who made racist comments about Labour MP David Lammy. An undercover investigation by ITV has revealed that a senior official within the party told Farage he was "protecting" the candidate, Chris Parry, who suggested Lammy should "go home to the Caribbean."
Undercover Investigation Findings
The investigation showcased footage of Sarah Pochin, one of two female MPs for Reform, expressing frustration over the party's chauvinistic culture. She stated, "they just exclude you if you are a woman."
In the footage, Farage discussed the controversy surrounding Parry, a retired rear admiral selected to contest the Hampshire and Solent mayoral election. Despite Parry's remarks about Lammy and other politicians from minority ethnic backgrounds, the party initially stood by him for several months.
Controversial Remarks and Party Response
Parry's comments included claims that certain politicians do not have a primary loyalty to the UK. Although he was eventually suspended on March 26 after further remarks surfaced, including derogatory comments about a Jewish neighborhood watch group, Farage had previously resisted calls to dismiss him.
