Republican representative Nancy Mace has seen her former fiancé and two of his business associates charged with sex crimes and voyeurism related to an incident she described in detail during a House floor speech in February 2025. The charges stem from an episode that highlights the inadequate investigation of crimes against women.

Details of the Incident

John Douglas Osborne, 46, is accused of committing sex acts on a 23-year-old incapacitated and intoxicated woman while Patrick Bryant, 53, and Eric Bernard Bowman, 46, allegedly watched. According to sworn statements from agents of the state law enforcement division, the men discussed who would assault the woman beforehand, took photos, and recorded the assault, which was captured on a security system feed at a home in Sullivan’s Island, an affluent suburb of Charleston.

The woman had fallen into a pool and was found passed out on a couch, covering herself with a pillow. Another woman, who was monitoring the security feed, witnessed the assault and documented it in a journal.

Charges Filed

  • Osborne: Charged with first-degree assault and battery, and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
  • Bryant and Bowman: Each charged with voyeurism.
  • Bowman: Also charged with obstruction of justice for resetting a phone that investigators were seeking and for publishing the name of the victim along with a video of her on social media.
