Luna, a Jack Russell terrier who had been missing for over a month in Yellowstone National Park, was finally caught in a live trap on Wednesday and reunited with her family. The 10-year-old dog had evaded capture as concerns grew for her survival with winter approaching in the park.

Discovery and Rescue

Luna was spotted crossing intersections, wandering through employee housing, and even entering lodges through automatic doors. Katie Boucher, a volunteer leading the rescue effort and spokesperson for Luna's owners from California, found her in a trap baited with scraps from a T-shirt and pillowcase belonging to the family.

Boucher took Luna to a veterinarian for examination. "She's underweight, but that's to be expected. She's alert and in good spirits," Boucher shared. "I was crying all the way up here from the park."

Background of the Incident

Luna escaped from her family’s cabin on September 10. The family had left her inside with a "Do Not Disturb" sign while they explored the park. In an apparent accident, housekeeping opened the door, allowing Luna to escape.
