The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has expressed that she is "deeply distressed" over allegations involving child sexual abuse images against her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr. She revealed that she was made aware of these "disturbing allegations" in 2018 by the Metropolitan Police.
Background
Meghan's statement follows a report by the Sun newspaper, which claimed that her half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr, alleged he discovered a stash of images belonging to their father at his former home in the Philippines. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Markle Sr denied possessing any child sexual abuse images, labeling the accusations as "sick lies".
It is understood that the UK authorities had previously informed Meghan about the allegations made against her father in a 2018 letter sent to Scotland Yard, which was later shared with her by the police.
Meghan's Statement
In a statement released through her spokesperson, Meghan said:
“"I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed."
