Amazon has introduced a significant redesign of its Kindle e-reader lineup, focusing on a bezel-free display to create a sleeker and more modern look. Unveiled on Thursday, the new Kindle replaces the traditional raised bezel with a flush-front design, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Key Features of the New Kindle

  • Capacitive Touch Technology: Amazon has addressed the challenge of accidental screen touches by implementing a new capacitive touch technology. According to Kevin Keith, Amazon’s vice president of devices, the Kindle can now detect where a reader's fingers are resting, creating a "dead zone" that prevents unintended commands.
“

"When you’re gripping the Kindle, wherever you put your thumb, it will self-detect a dead zone in the Cap touch. It will just readjust, and it’ll know that the finger is there," Keith explained.

  • Thinner and Lighter Design: The standard 6-inch Kindle is now only 6.8 millimeters thick and weighs 140 grams, making it the lightest and most portable Kindle yet.
  • Faster Page Turns: The new display boasts a 30% faster page turn rate compared to the previous generation.
  • New Color Options: The refreshed Kindle lineup includes new colors such as Ube, Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite, and Fig.
  • Pricing: The new Kindle starts at $149.99 and is available in Ube and Graphite. An aluminum-backed version with 32GB of storage is also available.
