Uber has successfully won its bid to dismiss claims amounting to approximately £340 million brought by thousands of London black cab drivers and two former private hire firms. The group action focused on Uber's operations in London between May 2012 and March 2018.

Background of the Case

The claimants alleged that Uber provided Transport for London (TfL) with misleading information when it first obtained a license to operate in the capital in 2012. However, a High Court judge ruled that the cases had been filed too late and dismissed them without evaluating the truth of the allegations.

Court Ruling

Uber, which denied the claims, expressed satisfaction with the court's decision to dismiss the lawsuits at the earliest opportunity. Approximately 13,000 drivers were seeking nearly £200 million in damages, while a claim on behalf of Kabbie and Iride, two private hire firms that have since ceased operations, sought around £140 million.
