The Centre has requested state governments to compile and share details of individuals who may be missing following the flash floods in Nepal. This request comes after over 1,000 people were reported missing after floods struck Nepal’s districts bordering Tibet on Wednesday.
Information Requested
The information sought includes:
- Names
- Contact numbers
- Other relevant details of individuals who may have been in the affected area or whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The details are expected to be shared privately with the authorities. Reports indicate that more than 300 Indians are among those missing, many of whom were tourists headed to Kailash Mansarovar. Others include individuals working at the Trishuli hydropower project.
Role of the Ministry of External Affairs
An official stated that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will utilize the information received from the states to contact the families of those potentially affected and support efforts to establish contact with the missing individuals. Chief Secretaries of states and Union Territories have been instructed to coordinate the collection and transmission of this information to the Centre.
