Meta has introduced a new pricing model for its Muse Spark AI model, which is designed for coding and other agent-based tasks. The company is offering significant discounts to users who share their prompts and model outputs, effectively monetizing the data that can help improve future versions of the model.

Pricing Details

Under the new contributor pricing model:

  • Input tokens: Standard cost is $1.25 per million tokens, while contributors pay just 10 cents.
  • Output tokens: The standard price is $4.25 per million, but contributors will only pay 20 cents.

This initiative comes after Meta faced challenges in gathering training data, including a controversial internal project aimed at tracking employee computer usage, which was paused due to backlash.

Importance of User Data

User data is crucial for enhancing the capabilities of AI tools. Mario Zechner, the developer behind the open-source harness Pi, highlighted that significant improvements in coding agent capabilities were observed due to the storage of user sessions for reinforcement learning training.
