Fusion startup Realta Fusion has announced a partnership with Madison Gas and Electric to establish one of the first grid-connected fusion power plants in the United States, located in Wisconsin. This collaboration highlights the growing interest among utilities worldwide in fusion technology, driven by concerns over future power supply and the advancements made in the fusion sector.

Project Details
The partnership aims to explore the construction of a 200-megawatt power plant, sufficient to power a small city, projected for the mid-2030s. As part of the agreement, Madison Gas and Electric has made an equity investment in Realta, although specific details were not disclosed. Realta is also repurposing an old Oscar Mayer factory in Madison as its research and development facility.
In addition to funding, Realta will benefit from access to interconnection sites, which is crucial as energy providers seek locations to connect to the increasingly integrated electrical grid. The startup will receive technical assistance and financing for the future power plant.
