A magnitude 7 earthquake struck a mountainous region in Tibet on Thursday night, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 people, according to reports from Chinese state media.

Epicenter and Impact

The earthquake's epicenter was located in Baqên County, part of the Nagqu region, which is approximately 400 km northeast of Tibet's capital, Lhasa. The local emergency management bureau reported that 32 others have been injured as a result of the quake.

Emergency Response

Authorities have declared an emergency and have deployed rescue teams to the affected areas. Local reports indicate that more than 300 homes have collapsed, and power in the region has been largely cut off. Additionally, rockfalls have led to road closures, complicating access for rescue crews.
