Indian Army Aviation pilots successfully evacuated a casualty from 18,600 feet near the Nun Kun massif on Saturday. The operation was conducted under extremely challenging conditions, with strong winds, difficult terrain, and fading daylight posing significant risks to the crew.

The Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army praised the operation on X, highlighting it as a demonstration of the “skill, courage and compassion” of Indian Army Aviation personnel. The rescue took place during the last available landing window of the day, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Tactical Maneuvers
Due to the high altitude, flying conditions were difficult for the pilots. Reduced atmospheric density affected engine performance and rotor lift, as reported by ANI. To maximize the helicopter’s lifting capability, the pilots removed all non-essential equipment and carried only limited fuel while ensuring enough range to complete the evacuation.
