A British man has been fined €3,000 (£2,500) after his two-year-old son tragically fell nearly 12 metres (40ft) to his death from the fourth-floor window of a hotel in Cyprus. Joshua Foster, 37, pleaded guilty to causing death through a reckless act during a family holiday.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on 12 July, the first day of the family's vacation at the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas. The court heard that Foster believed the window was closed when he placed his son on the sill to show him the view of a nearby waterpark. He reportedly "lost control" of the child, leading to the tragic fall.
During the sentencing at Paphos district court on 6 October, Foster appeared emotional as the district judge, Froso Christodoulidou, read out the sentence. After the hearing, he embraced his lawyer and parents.
Family Activities
Foster, his wife, two children, and in-laws had arrived in Cyprus early that morning. After spending time at the pool, they returned to their rooms to prepare for dinner. Around 6 PM, Foster, his father-in-law, and son were heading towards the lift when the boy noticed the waterpark outside.
