US President Donald Trump has called off plans to livestream the execution of former US Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan by firing squad. Hasan, who opened fire in a crowded medical building at Fort Hood on 5 November 2009, fatally shot 13 unarmed soldiers and injured another 32.
Background
Initially, Trump had expressed support for broadcasting the execution online, stating that it could serve as a deterrent. However, as criticism regarding the public display grew, he reconsidered his stance. On Thursday, Trump remarked that "many very good and well-meaning people would rather not watch him die."
Execution Details
Trump confirmed that Hasan will still face execution by firing squad as scheduled, but it will not be streamed. He stated, "He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed."
