Alexander Millington-Cotes, the stepson of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to secure specialist legal advice aimed at locating the renowned explorer, who has not been seen in public for over two years. The campaign seeks to raise £55,000 to enable Millington-Cotes to instruct lawyers to "locate and safeguard" Fiennes, who is 82 years old and suffers from Parkinson’s disease.
Concerns for Welfare
Millington-Cotes, 31, is increasingly worried about Fiennes' welfare, especially since his mother, Louise, has lasting power of attorney regarding Fiennes' care. Reports indicate that Louise has placed Fiennes in several care homes where he has been denied visitors. Friends and family have expressed growing concern for the explorer's well-being.
According to the Telegraph, Fiennes had previously been in a care home in Wales under a pseudonym. A watchdog reportedly concluded that his living arrangements amounted to a deprivation of liberty due to inadequate legal safeguards. In another care home in London, visitors were allegedly required to sign non-disclosure agreements before seeing him.
Family Dynamics
Arabella McIntyre-Brown, sister of Fiennes’ late first wife, Ginny, expressed her concern for his welfare by checking into the London home for a week in an attempt to speak with him. She stated that Fiennes expressed a desire to see his friends.
