Tech billionaire Peter Thiel has been identified as the new owner of the historic Casa Encantada, a Bel-Air estate that sold for an astonishing $130 million at a foreclosure auction in July. The 1938 mansion, once owned by Conrad Hilton, was sold at an open-air auction in Pomona, with the buyer's identity kept confidential for several months.

The winning bid was linked to a limited liability company associated with Thiel, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. This sale marks the most expensive real estate transaction in Los Angeles for the year, although it is significantly lower than the previous asking prices. The late telecom mogul Gary Winnick, the former owner, had sought $225 million in 2019 and $250 million in 2023, making it the priciest home in the U.S. at that time. Winnick passed away in 2023 amid substantial debt.
