Palantir and Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, have ended their legal dispute regarding a £50 million contract with the Metropolitan Police. The conflict arose from allegations that Khan blocked the US tech firm from securing the deal due to concerns over its values and ethics.
Background of the Dispute
The legal battle began when Palantir filed a lawsuit against the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (Mopac) in June. Khan intervened to prevent the awarding of a two-year contract for Palantir to utilize its AI technology in criminal investigations through a system known as Unified Operational Analytics (UOA). Khan cited a "clear and serious breach" of procurement rules as the reason for his decision.
Palantir, which has previously worked with the Israeli military and the Trump administration, faced criticism from Khan, who stated that Londoners expect public funds to be allocated to companies that align with the city's values.
Statements from Both Sides
Louis Mosley, head of Palantir in the UK and Europe, accused Khan of politicizing the procurement process, asserting that the mayor was prioritizing politics over public safety. He remarked:
“"What Londoners value is not being mugged, not being raped by a serving police officer."
