Kenya has confirmed a second case of Ebola just 10 days after a businessman died from the virus. The first victim had traveled to Kenya from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The new patient, a 39-year-old man, is a close relative of the first case and was already in quarantine when he fell ill on Tuesday, according to Kenya's health ministry.

Context

The Ebola virus spreads through contact with infected bodily fluids such as blood or vomit. The incubation period for Ebola ranges from two to 21 days, meaning those exposed to the virus may not show symptoms for several weeks. The health ministry noted that detecting the illness early has improved the new patient's chances of recovery and limited the risk of spreading the virus to others. They urged the public to "stay calm but vigilant."
